Phoenix 01.10.09

I arrived in Tempe Friday night to hang out with my cousin Janette for a day or so before my next conference. The last time I saw Janette I think we were at the Daytona 500 a few years ago. This trip was really special cause I got to meet one of the newest members of our family her son Austin. He is well on his way of becoming the ladies man. I some how talked Janette into doing a 5K race with me the next morning. I ended up actually placing 30th overall and winning my age group – and yes there where actually others in my age group……..ha! My legs were still sore from my hike a few days before but the air was dry and cool……perfect running weather. Later that day we ventured out on another hike this time to check out the Phoenix skyline.

Thanks Janette for an awesome time!

Grand Canyon & Sedona 01.09.09

After my conference in Vegas ended I bummed a ride from some friends to the airport and rented a car to drive to Phoenix. My next conference was to start on Sunday in Phoenix. I had a few days to play in between. Ever since I did a report on the Grand Canyon in the 5th grade I have wanted to visit. I guess I hadn’t realized that it was going to be so cold! When I woke up the next morning it was 9 degrees. I was prepared for all different kinds of weather and had many layers ready to go for my hike. It was a beautiful day – not a cloud in the sky. Much to my surprise there were several people out on the trails, including a family who had no hiking shoes, no supplies and very little water – but they seemed like they were having fun! The trail had a lot of snow and ice on it and I was wishing I had some crampons for my boots. I was wearing a Boston marathon t-shirt under some of my layers – that actually started up a few conversation’s on the way down as I met different folks along the way. I actually ended up meeting a fellow marathoner from Canada who took the photo of me back at the top – thanks Paul! After my great day at the canyon I headed out to Phoenix with a detour thru Sedona. I stopped in for some lunch and some breathtaking views….I have got to plan a trip back to spend some more time in this amazing place.

Las Vegas 01.04.09

I recently attended a senior portrait artists event in Las Vegas at the Red Rock Resort & Casino. This was a great opportunity to work and network with some of the top photographers from around the country. Before the event started we went out to work with some actual high school seniors at the neon graveyard in Las Vegas then later that afternoon we headed out to Red Rock Canyon to play some more. These models won a nation wide search to become our SPA models. They received VIP treatment and a all expenses paid trip to model for us. How cool is that? Our studio will be participating in this program next year. So if your in the class of 2010 and are interested in participating in the program shoot me an email and I’ll add you to the list. Next year’s trip will be to warm and sunny San Diego in January! I’m already signed up to go.
